Doggelganger

I found an interesting piece of software tonight. Doggelganger compares an image of your face to a database of adoptable dogs, and identifies the best match for you. If the software truly does do facial comparison on the dogs in the database it could have lots of interesting applications in dog identification.

Lesson’s From Fashion’s Free Culture

Really interesting talk on how the fashion industry thrives without patents and copyrights. The video is very relevent to a lot of the news I’ve read about software patents and patent trolls.

Hack Utah

In the last week I’ve become very interested in how much a group of hackers could change the landscape of an area just by providing apps that open up data resources and make them easier to access and use. I initially got the idea from @onyxfish‘s Hack Tyler project. However, what I’m most interested in [...]

The Washington Animal Rescue League

I’ve had this sitting in my drafts for a while now. It would be great if we could get more shelters running like this. In Utah we are lucky enough have No More Homeless Pets which provides spay/neuter, vaccinations and many other veterinary services at reduced prices, but I’d really like to see more shelters [...]

Lucy and Duo

IMG_20101110_150600

Lucy and Duo were 8-week-old blue heeler puppies that we took from Kelly’s sisters house, and fostered through Wag-n-Train Dog Rescue. They were fun, but we didn’t have them for long they were adopted out at the Mini Super Adoption during December.

Oakley

Oakley is a 2-year-old pit bull mix. She was originally brought into CAWS as a puppy, but two years later she turned up in the shelter again. I actually pulled her from the shelter for another foster home, but they fell through and I ended up with her. Oakley had a great personality. She loved [...]

Fixing Javascript Errors in WordPress SEO

In the last two versions of Yoast’s WordPress SEO plugin there’s been errors in the JavaScript that cause parts of tinymce to not work. The issue is some of the variables are not strings like expected, so when they try to run string methods against them, causing JavaScript to throw a syntax error. The simple [...]

Nala

DSC_0728

Nala is a 2-year-old Chocolate Retriever. I originally met Nala in one of the training classes that I attended with Ozzy. She was very afraid of other dogs and protective of her owner if strange dogs were nearby. In the end that’s what caused her to be given up. She kept starting fights with the [...]

Boozer

DSC_0726

Boozer is a 1 ½ year old American Bulldog Labrador Retriever mix, I think.  CAWS took him in at the spring 2010 super adoption. I don’t know much of what happened to him between the time CAWS took him in and he came to my house. I know he was adopted out, but  ended up [...]

Certain Form Element Names Cause 404 in WordPress

I was just creating a custom registration form on a WordPress site. When I started testing the form the page it was submitting to returned a 404, but would function normally when navigating there naturally. The issue arose from having the name of one of my form fields be “name.” It seems that WordPress uses [...]
